  • Unfiltered Google blocked in China

    google-china

Google refusal to censor search content has led it to leave china and redirect Chinese search to servers in Hong Kong. But the latest report suggest that China has started blocking the Google site in mainland China.

China has always opted to censor information. Being a huge country and huge economics nobody specially businesses could challenge the official stand on freedom of information. The government doesn’t want search results that gives Chinese community the anti-China results.

In recent years china has been censoring contents in almost every websites – specially the ones favoring Free Tibet campaign and other activities that is not in interests of Chinese government.

In almost every major Chinese cities, users reported that trying to access Google searches returned an error page. It began at around 5pm on Tuesday. Although it was still possible to access Google’s websites, searches on any topic delivered an error message.

Google was unable to immediately confirm the cause of the problem, but said it was investigating. Chinese internet users blamed the "Great Firewall" for blocking Google searches. Google’s email services were unaffected.

In addition, Google said its mobile search has been partially blocked in China, leaving mobile phone users unable to use the Google search function.

The developments suggest that the Chinese government is preparing to make its move against Google, after the company moved the servers of its search engine to Hong Kong last week to avoid censorship.

The Chinese government has instructed to “… remove text, images, sound and video that supports Google.”
